The 401 Winchester Self Loading, a.k.a. 401SL, 401WSL, and 10.33x38mmSR, is an American metallic rifle cartridge that was introduced with the Winchester Model 1910 rifle.
The last time I looked (Apr 25), Buffalo Arms Co. was selling a box of 20 rounds of 401 WSL fixed ammunition for $99.49.

The 401 Winchester Self Loading was introduced in 1910 with the Winchester Model 1910 rifle. Winchester discontinued the ammunition in 1936, but most manufacturers carried it until after WWII. Some specialty ammunition manufacturers still load this caliber. Our most recent purchase (Apr 25) was from the Buffalo Arms Co. For reloading components, we have found gunbroker.com searches to be productive (Apr 25).

In the Literature:
- 401 Winchester Self Loading is on page 311 of The Handloader’s Manual of Cartridge Conversions, 4th Edition. A conversion is discussed, and it will require lathe work.
- 401 Winchester Self Loading is on page 128 of Cartridges of the World, 12th Edition. Although specialty ammunition companies still load this cartridge, it is considered obsolete.
- LoadData.com has three loads (one each) for 200, 212, and 240-grain projectiles. I find the desktop version of this website unusable. The site is fine on my iPhone.
- Wikipedia has a 401 Winchester Self Loading page. I have never used Wikipedia as a source, but it is an okay place to begin a search for reliable information or to find leads for further reading.
